I brought Bacon to our Holiday Party, honestly I did!
I love bacon – well to be honest I REALLY LOVE bacon. The more crispy the better. I want to bite into it and hear it crunch from across a room. Is it a sickness my love for bacon- possibly, but not in New Jersey
To be fair- I am very interested in exploring vegan recipes. I actually believe my daughters will really enjoy the few I have read about. For now, back to bacon.
So the next question is – how do you cook your bacon?
When I was kid my dad would cook it in a skillet, i can almost hear the popping sound and even sometimes the smell would wake me up. What my did after he was done cooking could only be described today as cause for concern. He would remove the bacon, then crack a few eggs and cook them in the bacon fat. Now many of your know me today- 5′6″ 300 lbs- well I can dig up picks from middle and high school – I was pretty skinny(ish).
Later in life I moved to microwaving them- sometimes in those bacon cooking devices sometime jsut paper and zap for a 1 minute per slice. For some reason I cannot get it right- so I thought- why not ask the readers of the blog.
So readers and future comment makers – 3 part question:
How do you cook bacon?
What type of bacon do you like?
Favorite meal with bacon?

1. turkey bacon or regular bacon (as long as it is cooked to what i call very very crispy!
2. cooked either on a nonstick pan or i have even baked turkey bacon in the oven
3. served with either pancakes or (my favorite) crepes, and eggs
ps – i thought my dad was the ONLY ONE to cook his eggs in bacon grease! must be a ‘dad’ thing????
Not to gross anyone out- but i am pretty sure I can remember my dad dipping some toast in the remaining bacon fat. I never got into that, but then I never complained about the eggs either…
I like my bacon crispy!!!
I use to cook my bacon on the Pampered Chef Pan in the oven but mine never turned out very good.
So on topof the oven was the way we did it.
1. We love to cook our bacon in the oven. Lay a large piece of parchment paper on a sheet pan. Makes cleaning up easier. Cut bacon in half. The half pieces seem to shrink less, tho that is debatable. Bake at 350° for 15 mins or so. Flip pieces about half-way thru. Awesome!
2. I recently fell in love with thick cut bacon. Always was a fan of thin and crispy before, but now I think thick cut has more flavor and meat to eat.
3. Favorite meal with bacon? What, bacon alone is not a meal? Who knew! Ok.. BLT’s or wrapped around a jalapeno. Num num num!
Love my Smithfield Hickory Bacon!! And have found the easiest and cleanest prep is in the oven on my Pampered Chef stoneware.
Though cooking in bacon grease is no longer recommended, I do remember it tasting d*mn good!
Oscar Meyer Bacon cooked in the oven (on cookie sheet) and BLT’s with cheese..awesome Oh and of course Nick cooking the bacon & making the sandwiches!
well let’s see my favorite type of bacon is oscar meyer and the way i like it cooked is in the microwave (crispy of course)my favorite dish to make and enjoy with bacon is fettuchinni carbonara( with chicken).
Definitely in the oven on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees until it is alitttle before the way you like it for carryover cooking. Always put on paper towels to get the last of the grease. Try and sprinkle alittle sugar on bacon before cooking to give it sweet light flavor. kids love it. Any type of hickory smoked bacon is my favorite on wheat toast with tomato lettuce and cheese. Yum
I cook my bacon either in a cast iron skillet (if I’m also planning on frying eggs) or in the oven. Apparently I’m the odd one out here in that I prefer my bacon to be soft and chewy rather than crispy. The bacon in Ireland (which is a different cut with a wider portion of meat that we get in the U.S.) is excellent this way.
As far as buying bacon goes I prefer smoked bacons. We have a stall in Cleveland’s Westside Market that sells apple-cured meats and their bacon is excellent.
As meals go, bacon is good with just about everything. I’m partial to bacon-wrapped water chestnuts with brown sugar and soy, but also like sandwiches made with chopped bacon and scrambled eggs. Or I’ll add it to clam chowder, pasta, etc.
I know I’m late for the giveaway thing, but I feel compelled due to my love of bacon to respond.
As an ex-Boy Scout, there’s only one way to do bacon that doesn’t leave me going “if only I’d done this on a beefy cast iron skillet on an open fire,” and that’s to do it on a beefy cast iron skillet on an open fire. And ideally that would be followed up by making pancakes using… you guessed it, the bacon grease. And I always cook it borderline into oblivion, like where someone might bite into it and ask “Did this used to be bacon?”
Thanks Kevin –
I love the “Did this used to be bacon?” quote- AWESOME!!!!
Hope you are doing well!
