I just wanted to leave a review of the Athenian Grill in Toms River. That's where we went with the restaurant certificate that we(wife) won on the website. It was authentic and the staff although small were very attentive. The food was amazing. Definitely a keeper! Thanks again Big Bites Little Bites. If we did not win the certificate we might not have found this jewel in toms river.

I know I'm late for the giveaway thing, but I feel compelled due to my love of bacon to respond.

As an ex-Boy Scout, there's only one way to do bacon that doesn't leave me going "if only I'd done this on a beefy cast iron skillet on an open fire," and that's to do it on a beefy cast iron skillet on an open fire. And ideally that would be followed up by making pancakes using... you guessed it, the bacon grease. And I always cook it borderline into oblivion, like where someone might bite into it and ask "Did this used to be bacon?"

I cook my bacon either in a cast iron skillet (if I'm also planning on frying eggs) or in the oven. Apparently I'm the odd one out here in that I prefer my bacon to be soft and chewy rather than crispy. The bacon in Ireland (which is a different cut with a wider portion of meat that we get in the U.S.) is excellent this way.

As far as buying bacon goes I prefer smoked bacons. We have a stall in Cleveland's Westside Market that sells apple-cured meats and their bacon is excellent.

As meals go, bacon is good with just about everything. I'm partial to bacon-wrapped water chestnuts with brown sugar and soy, but also like sandwiches made with chopped bacon and scrambled eggs. Or I'll add it to clam chowder, pasta, etc.

First 50 pounds down and losing- so I would argue portion control is more important then cutting away things I want to eat. Second, in many cases I cook and do not always eat the meals. I may just test/sample. I agree I need to put some healthier recipes together and I promise once the new site is up I will. Thanks for your comment

I find it a little strange that someone with Lapband Surgery is posting recipes for bacon pasta, fudge cake, and other recipes that contain large quantities of cream, sugar, and fat. Where are the healthy recipes that someone trying to lose weight should be eating?

Definitely in the oven on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees until it is alitttle before the way you like it for carryover cooking. Always put on paper towels to get the last of the grease. Try and sprinkle alittle sugar on bacon before cooking to give it sweet light flavor. kids love it. Any type of hickory smoked bacon is my favorite on wheat toast with tomato lettuce and cheese. Yum
